and several others say that the stock 2-1-2 exhaust boosts torque.

Will we see torque losses if we change to an aftermarket exhaust?

I am certainly not a mechanical expert, but from what I've been told by professional motorcycle mechanics and the guys at the service department of my local dealer, if you change the pipes, you'll lose performance. One guy said that Vance and Hines pipes "might not" reduce performance. All of this advise was before I knew about the extra boost you posted here. Thanks for the post. I'd love to have drag pipes on mine, but will always take performance over looks. It would be interesting to get the stats on the drag pipes offered by Yamaha for this bike. Surely they wouldn't reduce performance?!?

Okay this is just info I have got from other's but her is my .02 worth. Stock pipes are basically for all purposes a 2into1 so to change out your pipes for a 2into 2 system will affect performance to some degree. The amount will vary depending on the sytem installed. The 2into2 with a crossover is better than a solid 2pipe system but not as good as a 2into1. Also changing overall pipe length(shorter or longer) will move power and torque up or down the scale but I am uncertain on all the factors pertaining to this. Hope this helps
