We are prototyping this 240 8.5 inch rear wheel for the Raider. Wheel design matches existing design so that you can use stock front wheel.

Wont you have to Mod the swingarm to get the bigger wheel to fit?

Just a note here. But you can actually mount the 240 on the stock rear wheel with no mods. That is as wide as it goes for stock. Then you would need to go aftermarket. But a 240 on a stock rim can save some money unless you just plan to upgrade your wheels.

The tire manufacturers do no approve a 240 tire on the stock rim. We prefer to be on the safe side as it rolls the side of the tire.

I do not condone the 240 on a stock rim just know some guys that did it. Just passing the info along. I myself prefer the stock tire (not to wide and not to skinny).

Ive had my 240mm on stock wheel for 1000 plus miles and have had NO issues. I ran through deals gap 318 corners in 11 miles atleast a dozen times. The rocket 3 has a 7" rim and comes stock with the 240mm metz.. I have a friend with over 80,000 miles on his rocket 2300cc with the 240mm 7" rim.. I would prefer the 8.5" rim but as far as safety I think the 240 on the 7.5 is safer than the 210mm on the 7.5" rim especially if you ever hit a POT hole.. Look at the back of the 210mm on the rim. The tire and rim are almost exactly the same size. Now hit a Pot hole on one side of that tire/rim and what happens, Rim damage, tire deflation, butt pucker, Meat Pancake. There is NOTHING wrong with the 240mm on the 7.5" rim.. NOTHING Metzlers site use to say 7" to 9". If you look on the recommended size tire for the Rocket 2300cc with the 7" rim it clearly says Metz 240mm.
One More thing. Having ridden the Warrior for years and having had the 200mm stock rim and having had the 8.5" 240mm and 260mm on a 8.5" rim the handling will greatly decrease with the wider rim because the wider the rim the wider the tire, hence the harder to hold the bike in a corner. Iam sure you have read this many times in most mags.. The warrior handles better by design than the raider so that would make the raider that much harder to control in a corner with a 8.5" rim and 240 tire. Iam NOT slamming the 8.5" rim because I would be the first to buy it for the looks.. I ride sport bikes on trackdays for crazy corners at plus 100mph so I push it a little harder than most. I think your rim will be great for the looks of the raider but will NOT make it handle better than a stock rim with a 240mm tire which as you have read I think is perfectly safe and could show with evidence that it is 100% safe if you wish..

Agreed i have 2 Rockets and both are just fine with a 240 on a small seven inch rim. I have even taken one all the way to Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and if it can handle those roads it can handle anything. So i cant see any problems with a 240 on a 7.5 inch rim. while i will agree that it would look nicer on 8.5 inch billet wheel it works just fine on the stocker

The rocket rear rim is 7.5 and is a 16 inch dia. with a 50 profile which makes for a lot of differance from a 18 inch dia.wheel. So your compairing apples to oranges. :o ::) ::)

First year was 7 inch I have one on the work bench now, And Triumph messures from the bead outward so its always a half in shorter, also the aspect ratio of a tire is the relationship of the tire cross section height to the cross section width. In a tire with an aspect ratio of 85, for example, height is about 85% of the tire width. "Low Profile" tires have an aspect ratio of less than 80. The aspect ratio of a tire is often contained in the size marking, e.g., 130/90x16, etc. So the difference between a between a 50 series and 40 series is minor. And for years before it became a billet fashion. On our old pan heads we would convert car rims

Just measured a rocket 240-50-16 and its 4 inches tall. The Raider 210-40-18 is 3 inches tall (section hight). Now if thats not more than minor someone needs a new tape measure..The rocket rear rim was 7.5 for all years until the new 08 Touring. ::)

Yes, a 240 on a stocker will work, but the purpose of this post was to sell a wheel, not to test you gentlemen's knowledge of a rim size and tire profile of a rockettIII. And if a 240 will go on the stock rim, and you point it out, that defeats the purpose of the post in the first place. To SAFELY run a 240, you MUST run a lage aftermarket wheel.

;D As I said in the other post I had an extra Dunlap 240x40x18 for my M-109 in the garage and decided to put it on the Raider.
It filled out the fender real smooth, and tell you the truth I think a 250 would fit under there without any changes on the stock rim.
